Day 16 - Six Degrees of Separation

Our son was at a wedding last weekend in New York City and turns out the groom is from Anchorage, Alaska. Through an invite on email, today we went to his family's bakery and met up with his Mom.... how cool is that! Busy bakery called Fire Island Bakery... excellent pastries and great hospitality. Who would of thought we would end up knowing someone in Anchorage.... through someone who knows someone....that six degrees of separation does happen!! Having difficulties with attaching photos today from this location.... will send pics tomorrow.

Got the one bike fixed and we are ready to head out tomorrow morning to Whittier. We will actually be going through some train tunnels shared by both trains and vehicles.... all tied to a schedule. Then we are booked to do a 4 hour boat tour to see the glaciers and sea animals. The weather has been awesome.... 73 degrees today.

Believe it or not... we are already halfway through our trip. Have ridden just over 7,600kms and Roberto has rode it all. He continues to ride like the wind. We are so thankful to our group of friends on this trip who have made this dream possible. It would of never happened without them. Donations continue to come in and Roberto will certainly reach his goal.

Life is great.... going for another Alaskan King Crab dinner shortly.

Day 15 - Wow...wow..wow..

Our day started with a WOW biker's breakfast at the Talkeetna Denali View Lodge. All of us slept like logs... 8hrs+ and got up to a magnificient breakfast that Renee had cooked up for us. See pics below. For more info on this lodge see www.TalkeetnaDenaliViewLodge.com. Definitely worth stopping by there if ever you are in the area. They are known for their fishing trips.

The ride from Talkeetna to Anchorage was short but beautiful. Came over a few crest of mountains today to WOW views once again....this area is so pristine and untouched and simply beautiful.

Had a hiccup with one of the bikes yesterday... so we went to the HD dealership here then walked through downtown Anchorage yesterday afternoon.... almost half the population of Alaska lives in Anchorage so it is a typical large American city.

Roberto is on a quest to eat Alaskan King Crab every night and so far he has....WOW IS HE A HAPPY MAN!!

Day 14 - Fairbanks to Talkeetna

Hi Everyone..... Made it safe and sound to Talkeetna ... saw some good views of Denali Park. Sunny this morning but really cold... even with the heated gear ... had to put on another layer of clothes...8 degrees before we started riding... so imagine with the wind factor...it was chilly!!

If the weather is clear tomorrow morning, we will rent a plane to view Denali Park by air. Either way we will then ride out to Anchorage and stay for 2 nights.

Below is a photo of the Bed & Breakfast we are staying at tonite... and Jesse and Roberto relaxing on the deck once we got here.

Everyone is pretty wiped tonite... we think riding in the cold weather might of had an impact on all of us. Early night for us all.... I'm sure.

We are truly enjoying 'living the dream'. Bearded Roberto is still smiling..... I will send you a photo soon of his new look :)

Day 13 - Off the bike day in Fairbanks

We got Walter's bike fixed today and serviced all the other.... I even got a new back tire... YIPEE!! It's raining and we are truly grateful that it is happening today as we expect nothing but sunshine tomorrow... and YES... we do have rose-colored glasses on!!

We are heading to Talkeetna tomorrow ... we will have our first views of Denali Park ... home of Mount McKinley... highest peak in North America... be back at you tomorrow night!

Off to dinner now...

OMG.... we are travelling with a 'chase car and trailer' which was indispensable when Walter's bike conked out as we arrived in Fairbanks. Peggy... our super duper driver can zip that SUV around like she's Italian (really .... she also drove a car on our bike trip in Italy...)... and her faithful navigator... Heather... awesome team that makes the trip stress free!!!
